Southampton Methodist District

Memorial service for Reverend Peggy Hiscock
Led by Revd Andrew de Ville, District Chair, and Revd Tony Cavanagh, Circuit Superintendent.

The service will be held on:

We are pleased to welcome the following speakers:

  • Rev Chipasha Musaba – General Secretary of the United Methodist Church Synod in Zambia
  • Rev Peggy Kabonde – the first women General Secretary

Rev Peggy Hiscock, who died last year in Poole, was a Methodist minister who worked as a missionary in Zambia from 1958 to 1974. She travelled to Zambia as a Deaconess.

Rev Peggy is remembered in Zambia as a pioneer and champion of women's ministry and someone who inspired and trained many women. Peggy was the first woman Presbyter to be ordained in the UCZ by the Rev Dr Colin Morris, the then General Secretary. When she returned home, her transfer was accepted by our conference and as such she became the first Woman Presbyter to serve in our British Conference.

In her work in Zambia Peggy established the Order of Diaconal Ministry and founded a school for the training of deaconesses in the United Church there.
