Recruitment: Sea Change Management

Can you help?

The Sea Change Management Company was set up by Poole Methodists when we underwent a major redevelopment programme on our Poole High Street site a few years ago.

Sea Change runs The Spire and manages Wesley's Café, on behalf of Poole Methodists. Largely comprising Poole Methodist members, the Board was deliberately constituted also to include membership from the community and from other churches. The perspective this brings has proved invaluable.

We need new board members to help us continue the important work which The Spire represents as a centre for Christian mission and service.

Could you, or someone in your church or community, join us on the Sea Change Board?
We would welcome anyone with time, skills, and experience which they feel might be relevant and useful.

What does Sea Change do?

The Board is active in managing the following:

  • Finances
  • HR
  • a large-scale volunteer scheme, including an important commitment to volunteers with additional needs
  • line management of paid staff
  • safeguarding
  • building maintenance and hire
  • a busy community café, with a number of supported meals and drinks schemes
  • grant applications

Must I have experience in all those areas?

No! We do have a wide span of control, and if you can bring skills and/or experience in one or more of the above areas then that would be great. If you feel you have something to offer more generally, please consider joining us. A commitment to work alongside us, share the load, and offer a new perspective are equally important.

How is the Board regulated and to whom is it accountable?

As a registered company, with named directors, we come under the auspices of Companies House. This means we are required to submit annual accounts, for example. Our work comes from Poole Methodists' Church Council and we report to each Church Council meeting.

When and where does the Board meet?

We meet at The Spire, approximately every 6 weeks. We always meet during the day – there are no evening meetings.

Is there anything else?

The pay is non-existent! The rewards, however, are significant.

Please do consider helping us. If you, or someone you think might be suitable, are interested, please contact me for an informal chat.
